Today’s feature will be an app for I-Phone users. It is a free app called, Cool Photo Effects Lite. You can find it HERE.
Description: You can add cool photo effects to your photos right on your iphone. All you have to do is to select the effect and the photo from your camera roll.
Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 4.0 or later.
Today, I uploaded this app onto my I-Phone 4 mobile phone and played around with a few of the effects. It seems that there are only a few of the effects that you can use with the free version. I noticed 5 of them total. If you purchase the regular version of the app, there are a lot more. Some of my favorites were putting someone’s face on a $10 bill, a billboard above the highway, in a water drop, in an old book and in a painting in an art gallery.
Out of the free effects, I chose the wanted poster and the crystal ball to try out the app and see how fast and easy it was. It probably took me less than 2 minutes to load the app and use two of the effects. Once you select the effect you want (and assuming it is part of the Lite version), you select “Apply Effect” and then it allows you to choose an image from your “Camera Roll”. You adjust the image over the face you want to use and then apply. It takes about 20-30 seconds to finish applying the effect (even though it does tell you it might take a few minutes) That was it! It asked me if I wanted to “save to my album”, email it, share on Facebook, or try again. I chose to email it to myself to save on my computer. It was there in my inbox seconds later!
My thoughts: The app is fun and you can do a few cute images if it is something that appeals to you! I loved the “Wanted poster” image of my 3 year old. Would I use this all of the time? No, I wouldn’t see a point to it for my own personal images. I also found myself a little disappointed that I saw a whole page of effects but then when I clicked on most, I couldn’t use them without buying the regular version of the app. I understand that they are just trying to make money off of their hard work, but I just would have liked to see it in a separate link/place. It was confusing and a waste of my time to try them when I knew I wasn’t going to purchase the regular version. If I did, it was very easy to do just from unlocking one of the extra effects.
Here are a few sample images I put together using this app.
