Welcome to our Mom Around Town Blog series! I will try to post them every other Friday this year if I can. Last time I posted an interview with Dori Mages of North Shore Family Services, LLC. This time I’ll be interviewing Alli Doubek of a local blog called Couponing for 4! I chose to interview this mom of 2 because she has a great resource for parents on how to save money on things their families need. Children are expensive and it is great to find good deals on things they need so we can save up for the fun things like vacations, birthday parties, family outing and of course, custom portraiture!

Erika: What services does your business/blog provide?
Alli: Frugal living, coupons, deals and fun! 🙂
Erika: How does your business/blog benefit the families in the Chicago area?
Alli: I cover deals at Jewel-Osco, Meijer and Butera in addition to CVS, Walgreens, Target, Walmart, Amazon and all the other national online deals!
Erika: How did you get the idea to start your business/blog?
Alli: I was actually in the movie theater watching Julie & Julia. I had been thinking that I wanted to figure out a way to stop annoying my family and friends by emailing them all the deals that I found and when I saw Julie start a site, I said, “That’s it?? I can do that!” Now my family and friends like me again because I’ve stopped emailing them and forcing them into my deal goodness.
Erika: I loved that movie and I love how to hear how others’ find their inspiration! How nice of you to want to help your family and friends too. What did you do before you started your business/blog?
Alli: I worked in mental health for many years (primarily with people who deal with psychotic disorders) and I worked as a standardized patient helping to train medical students (you know what this is if you watch Seinfeld!)
Erika: Can you share one memorable story from an experience you had related to your business/blog?
Alli: I’m drawing a blank! Other than running into readers at Jewel while clad in my pajamas (which happens regularly – the me wearing pajamas to the store anyway!), I have gotten to meet some fun celebrities including Hulk Hogan, Amber Riley, Joe Jonas and Dorothy Hamill.
Erika: Do you have children yourself?
Alli: I do!
Erika: I guess that is implied by your website title! Feel free to tell us about them.
Alli: I have a son who is eight and a daughter who is five. They are hilarious and fascinating. I can barely remember life before them.
Erika: Kids are a LOT of fun! Do you have anything you would like to tell us that is new for your business/blog in 2014?
Alli: I am actually starting a brand new site called Entertaining Chicago. It will be everything from theater reviews to Chicago deals to free things that you can do with your family around town. I hope you check it out!
Erika: Alli, the new site sounds fun! I can’t wait to check it out! Is there anything else you want to tell us about your business/blog or yourself?
Alli: I started Couponing For 4 from a true passion for playing the couponing game. I’m thrilled that people benefit from it and I look forward to many more years of fun!
Erika: Do you have any unusual talents or what is a fun fact about yourself?
Alli: I spent two years in college traveling around Illinois as part of an Improv theater group.Other than that, I have no talent at all. 😉
