All portrait sessions are produced in the comfort of your home or at a location of your choice. I make an effort to capture the true personality and natural expressions of the people I photograph which is easier to come by when relaxed and in a comfortable environment. Sessions last anywhere from 1-2 hours but are never rushed or have a time limit. Sessions will be booked when session fee is received. I mainly use natural light so we may have to reschedule if it is dark or rainy outside.

My goal is to make your session fun and keep it relaxed! I am the mom of three boys (2 are twins) and am a teacher so patience is a big part of my life! Try to schedule your session around children’s nap times to ensure a happier time of day. There is always time to feed a crying baby, give snacks to a toddler, change clothing or take any needed breaks in between. Be prepared to be yourselves and allow your children’s personalities to shine through as well. Together, we’ll make memories that you can treasure forever!

When thinking of clothing for your session, pick something comfortable. Make sure the clothing fits. Loose clothing can provide a poor image. Pick pieces that are playful and full of texture for babies and young children. Textured fabrics photograph beautifully. Some ideas for clothing are denim, cable knits, sweaters, corduroy, linen, eyelet dresses, embroidery, ruffles, and ribbing, v-necks, buttons and patterns. Stay away from any writing or large logos. Also stay away from white or black shirts if possible. They don’t photograph as nicely as colors lacking some of the details! Hats are a great accessory too!

For family portraits, try to choose a similar style for the whole family but vary in textures and colors. If planning a maternity session, there are many ways to dress. You can find a button down shirt or sweater unbuttoned a little to show your growing belly. Another way to go is to wear a thin strapped tank and jeans. Of course, wearing a normal outfit works just as well. It all depends on the look you are trying to achieve. For couple and engagement sessions, make sure your clothing compliments each other and doesn’t clash. The woman can wear a bright colored dress while the man can wear a buttoned down shirt and jeans or khakis. This is just one idea of course. For all sessions, classic styles work best for a timeless photo!

Newborns are the exception to the rule. They photograph best in their birthday suits. Newborns look most natural this way and there are a variety of ways to position them to get a tasteful photograph. A colorful or textured hat or blanket also can look wonderful in a newborn portrait.
